Osho’s 70th Enlightenment Day celebrations in Pune, rebels seek police help
By: Express News Service Pune | Updated: March 12, 2023 16:08 IST
Police are urged to ensure the rebels are allowed to wear Osho’s ‘mala’ while taking part in the celebrations on March 21.
As Osho lovers will be assembling in Pune to celebrate the spiritual leader’s 70th “Enlightenment Day” on March 21, a rebel group of devotees has sought police support for taking part in the celebrations.
In a press release, Swami Chaitanya Keerti, one of the rebel Oshoites, said, “For the past 23 years, the Osho Ashram management has not been celebrating Osho’s birthday on 11 December, Osho’s Punyatithi 19 January, Osho’s Enlightenment Day on March 21, and Osho Full Moon (Guru Purnima in July). It has been celebrating only the monsoon festival in August and the New Year festival regularly. And about 500-700 people were attending. This year’s Osho Enlightenment Day celebration in Pune will bring together three or four times more people (1,500-2,100, or even more) than any monsoon festival.”

Inside Osho Land
The Mumbai Charity Commissioner has called both sides on June 6, 2022, for a crucial hearing. People close to the commune say this could set the tone for the future of the Koregaon Park centre.
The commune is now mired in its worst controversy. Two sections of Osho disciples are at loggerheads over the proposed sale of two plots of the Koregaon Park Centre. (Illustration by Suneesh K.)
Crowds have thinned at the abode of Osho, the Indian guru with piercing eyes who called his commune the IBM of peace and love.
Only a handful enroll now for the courses, unlike hundreds who once crowded what was known as the spiritual supermarket in the city’s upmarket Koregaon Park.
Ban Jayesh, Amrito and Mukesh
Today is a special day, and I feel like writing something very special. Internationally, the covid situation is being relaxed and people are getting ready to travel. India is already welcoming international people, but I am very angry– very angry at 2 persons who happen to be our sannyasins. I feel that they should not be allowed to come to Pune. Who are these 2 persons? Many of us do know their names: Jayesh and Amrito. Even if they come to Pune, they should not be allowed to hold any power position at the ashram–it is ok they are there for meditating, but should not be allowed to do any administrative work. Both of them have been very destructive to our NeoSannyas movement, and Osho’s work. They have destroyed the very spirit of sannyas.
And if Jayesh is not allowed, we would get rid of his brother Yogendra or Raj, whatever he prefers to call himself, as he is packaged with Jayesh. He derives all his power to rule and misrule the ashram just because he is Jayesh’s brother. Another person who is also part of the package is Mukesh, who has always been obeying Jayesh blindly for his own profit motives, should not be allowed to hold any position. He, too, can be welcomed to meditate at the ashram.

The Commune, though, said that those who followed the laid-down norms were allowed entry into the premises.
A number of people, who identified themselves as disciples of spiritual leader Osho, held a sit-in protest outside the Osho Ashram, Koregaon Park, on Monday. The disciples, who had gathered to mark Osho’s Enlightenment Day and to “meditate peacefully next to Osho’s Samadhi”, said they were denied entry inside the premises by the Osho Commune. The Commune, though, said that those who followed the laid-down norms were allowed entry into the premises.

The Rajneesh Ashram is now denying that the place where his ashes are kept is his Samadhi.
The ongoing dispute over Osho’s Samadhi at the Osho Commune premises in Pune has taken a serious turn with the Osho International Foundation (OIF) denying the existence of any samadhi of Osho at the commune premises.
