Buddha Hall in Osho Commune, Pune, is the most sacred pilgrimage for all
Osholovers - now and forever. Over a quarter of a century, from 1974 to
1990, Osho strove to create what he termed as 'a Buddhafield' at this venue.
By Buddhafield, Osho meant a special energy field in which anyone can easily
go into deep meditation in the presence of an enlightened master and many
people have meditated there for a long time - as in the case of the Buddha
Hall.
Live music played as thousands of Osho Sannyasins entered the dhyan mandir
every evening to sit silently. When the hall was full, the music stopped.
Everyone went into silent meditation as they awaited their Master. They had
their spiritual experiences in this sacred space.
As he entered the Zen style podium with folded hands and a smile, he greeted
everyone present with an eye to eye contact before settling down in his seat
to deliver his discourse for the evening. These discourses covered the great
spiritual heritage of the world throughout history as he spoke on
Upanishads, Yoga, Shiv sutras, Krishna, Asthavakra, Buddha, Mahavir, Kabir,
Meera, Nanak, the Sufis, Tao, Zen, Hericliatus, Pythagoras, Jesus, the
Hassids and others.
These discourses delivered in Buddha Hall are on videotape and are played
every evening in Pune Commune and at all Osho Centres round the world. The
Buddha Hall has been the setting for all celebrations on Guru Purnima, Osho
Enlightenment Day, Osho's Birthday and now, Osho's Samadhi Day. This is the
venue where his body was brought before it was cremated. This is the venue
where thousands upon thousands of Osholovers had their spiritual re-birth by
taking 'sannyas' to become his disciples. This is the venue where all the
topnotch classical singers and dancers of India have given their most
memorable and indeed, spiritual, performances to a very receptive and
meditative audience. No wonder these artistes called it 'the cultural Mecca
of India'.
The Buddha Hall is not just an auditorium - it is a place of
pilgrimage for
all Osho lovers now and for eternity. It must be saved from destruction, as
it is part of the spiritual heritage of mankind. Anyone who is open can
experience him by entering the Buddha Hall. This is the spot where the
enlightened one came, sat and talked and guided thousands to enter
meditation and thousands became his devotees to start their spiritual quest.
It is alive with his energy. How can this sacred space be destroyed?
