OSHO WORLD FOUNDATION PRESENTED "THE REVOLUTION WITHIN" AT FICCI AUDITORIUM

Osho World Foundation presented “The Revolution Within” an evening dedicated to music, dance and drama at FICCI Auditorium on 8th October 2006 at 7.00 pm. Osho World is dedicated to the promotion of meditation and spirituality and is engaged in promoting arts as an expression of meditation and creative energy. The Revolution within was in continuation of other events being organized by Osho World to mark Osho’s 75th birth year celebrations.

The program started with a violin concert by Asghar Husein. It was followed by the intense personal performance by Mallika Sarabhai using multimedia, theatre, music and dance to trace the journey of women seekers of truth and to contextualize them in the world today. “The Revolution within” is based on the story of Saduba, adapted from a story by Jhaverchand Meghani, a noted writer.

Mallika Sarabhai, in this solo performance brought out the essence of women as satyagarhis. Narrating episodes from the life of women from around the various states of India, Dr. Sarabhai explores the meaning of Satyagrah (Ghandhian philosophy on the search for truth,) into the roots of her personal history and that of other women who turn sacrifice into revolutionary change. In an imagined conversation with Mahatma Gandhi, Sarabhai traverses the lives of women who have struggled non-violently with truth through the ages, exploring the relevance of this path today.

Mallika Sarabhai is a performer and creator of many talents. Her career has developed from being a young, internationally acclaimed, classical dancer and film personality, to being an activist and commentator on social issues. Now an established artist she celebrates positive reaffirmation of images of womanhood through dance, theatre and writing. Following the rich and inspiring model of her mother Mrinalini, Mallika has placed herself firmly at the cutting edge of Indian dance and dance theatre.

For Violinist Asghar Husein, music runs in his blood. At the tender age of ten, he started learning Violin. His father Ustad Anwar Husain was a famous table player of his time, thus, the rhythm comes to him naturally. Having equipped himself in the art of violin playing. Asghar took his initial training from Ustad Gauhar Ali Khan and afterwards he became the disciple of violin wizard Ustad Zahoor Ahmad Khan of Delhi Gharana to satisfy his quest to final new horizon & learn more and more. He has performed many solo concerts, jugalbandis with other musicians and recordings in India and abroad over the past several years. He is also a composer, with a number of albums to his credit. Among them are two from Music Today's series Amazing India.
